Mizuno Wave Sayonara Review

When I first started running I was all about "the more cushion the better." I finished my first marathon with several gnarly blisters {and by gnarly, I mean I had to head to the medical tent for layers and layers of moleskin just to be able to walk back to the hotel}, which I thought that was normal and to be expected after running 26.2 miles.  I also believed that you needed to "break shoes in." Wow, how things have changed.  I now run in a minimalist shoe, which I absolutely love, and if its not love at first fit, its not the shoe for me.  I am a pretty brand loyal shoe shopper, but am also open to trying the latest and greatest shoes on the market.  I have heard nothing but great things about Mizunos, so jumped at the chance to take them for a spin

I am firm believer that the key to a successful running experience, whether you are just starting to run or are training for your first marathon, is having a proper fitting shoe.  I am asked all of the time what shoe I recommend, and I while I tell people what I personally run in, I also emphasize the importance of going into a running store for a gait analysis and to be fitted for the right shoe for YOU! There is not one shoe that is right for everyone.

Ok, back to Mizunos.  Weighing in at just 7.1 ounces, the lightest in the Mizuno line-up, the Wave Sayonara's instantly caught my attention.  Bright and light, my kind of shoe.  I was concerned about the 10mm drop, as I am used to a 4mm drop, but they really felt incredible to run in.  My first run in them, which was also my first run post Ragnar, was an 8 mile hill run, and I was waving sayonara to my friends {you like that!?}.  I also wore them for 4 workouts at Fitbloggin {cardio dance class, Jump Sport, 4 mile run, and bootcamp} plus during my double brick workout, and my feet felt great. While they are a neutral, light weight shoe, I liked the balance of keeping the light feel while adding a little additional cushioning {for mile or or under pronation}. Truly a light, smooth, comfortable, and responsive ‘ride.’
